Well here is a first. BMW x Speedway bike
Co-Built is all about collaberation and this is something we are working on with long term Shorttrack Uk helper Pete Seaton. We have a project ongoing on these motors and a shorttrack framer. But things keep getting in the way. Pete took the bull by the horns and got hold of one of our motors. We got hold of the bits we need to make it run and all of a sudden we have the begining of a speedway bike. Pete already has a Honda 450 speedway bike but this will be more like the laid down motors that speedway rider are used to.
Cant wait to give it a skid!

We had a great weekend in Verona we meet some great people and really had some fun. The SB party at the Mr Martini shop was one of the highlights for sure. The party had 3 seperate locations. There was food served in the car park of the main dealership. The shop was open for drinks and the 'Lab' was converted into a bar and dance floor. We had a great night....

Alex helps us with some of our projects but aside from that he we have known each other for around 22 years. Geoff and Alex played in a band together. Sorry its been quite I have been having a few days off from blogging and doing some relaxing, hanging out, riding and building. Its 2012 now and I am looking forward to another year of great DBA.
We were pretty busy in 2011 here is some of the work we did last year

Guy Sutherlands Co-Built

Pete Boast and Tim Neave have been riding the 2011 season using our pipes

We worked with Steve at Redmax to build these pipes for Drogo's XS

Stuart Lovell wanted a pipe for his DRZ racer

We were happy to be asked to help out with Pipes and Yokes for Spirits latest bike.

The sideburn Enfield lost its rear end with us then later gained a pipe!

Tim Coles asked us to convert his Aprila into a DTX bike.

Theres more! For 2012 we have plenty on bikes trips and racing.

Rally 06

I always think of Rallies during the cold winter. Dakar starts next week and I will be follwoing Stan Watt and my other friends. But until then here are some great pictures from Morocco in 2006.
Rally's are like no other type of race I have ever taken part in. Its like an 8 day cluster fuck. The normal rules of life dont apply. Things can change from fun to hell in seconds. I can honestly say I have seen some of the greatest and worst sights during competing in these events. Its like an emotional rollercoaster and the goal is to get off when the ride stops and not before!

This was full of broken bikes when it rolled. The head filled with oil and it would restart. So they spent a couple of days working on it where it stood. Took the head off and refitted it. They drove it home.

I have posted this picture before. its the last time I took part in the Exeter Trail about 6 or 7 years ago. Anyway this Jan 6th when every sensisble person is thinking about climbing into a warm bed. Me and my mate Jeff W will be setting off from Cirencester on a 350 mile (16hrs) overnight ride to finish the next afternoon in Torquay. The trials sections start around 2.30 am. Its not a tricky event in terms of technical riding but to get a Gold Award you need to complete all 12 sections without 1 mistake.
I am cheating this year as I dont have a sidecar anymore so I am riding a solo.
This is one off the countries oldest motorsport events and the club has run events for 110 years.
So if you are feeling a little bit like some fresh air after all that christmas slobbery get up in he middle of the night and come say Hi. I will be the one wearing every item of clothing that I own! Alternitively get up a bit later as the local WI run a cracking cake stand at the section called Symms at Ilsington.

Nearly Dakar Time

Last Night myself and Geoff rode to London in the cold and wet on our 125 Hondas. Our destination was the lanch party and charity auction for the 2012 Dakar GB team. At midnight on the M40 it felt like we were in a mini Dakar all of our own.
It was like a who's who of the UK rally scene hosted by Ross Nobel who just generally took the piss out of people. We only have 3 bike entrants from the UK this year and Co-Built are right behind them. For 2 weeks every year I have a TV program I watch every day, so I know what it must be like to watch eastenders every night! While we are on the subject congratulations to Tamsin for her record highest women up Everest on a motorcycle. It sounds like her and Craig had some interesting times up there!

Now I am a bit like a broken record but its cos I am excited. Next weekend is Rollerburn. A lot of the people I know and myself have put a great deal of time and effort into creating an event which we hope will be completly different to any motorcycle event ever held before.

Brian makes reproductions (in the UK) like you havent seen before the quality and attention to detail is beyond the norm. If thats not enough has an eye for vintage style and trades vintage clothes, again of a high quality. We are really excited about our stand so come along and say hi.

Jan at Dutch Brothers likes his solid models and we like making stuff so its a match made in heaven! These are going to take some beating when they are done. They will match up with our Quick change lock nuts that Jan Designed a few years ago now. They will make a complete rear wheel system for FT and DTX bikes. 1 piece disc so no messing with disc carriers unless you want to! Extra drive peg holes so if one gets mullered you have spares!

This is Geoff in the last chance final last weekend in Italy. I nicked the picture from here. Antonio Cellini took some great shots and is a nice guy.
The track was tricky! Slick, Grippy and everything inbetween. Anyway Marco Buzzi went down in front and Geoff gave him a move I now call the Drake Snake.
The track was real tough and as a result I didnt even make the semi's. Geoff did good and only just missed out on a place in the final. Anyway we had a ton o fun!

We had some good racing at Scunthorpe at the weekend. Check out some nice shots here.
What a great 2011 season for UK shorttrack racing. Personally I have had some great results and have a podium place in all 3 championships that I have entered.
But thats not what racing is about for me. On the way up to scunthorpe Ronalds van broke down. It blew a head Gasket. Geoff was riding up with him and they managed to limp it in the pit gate.
They raced all day and at around 3pm Ronald called the AA. The van got recovered back to Essex with Ronald. My van was full as I had Ben Parts bike, my dad, my bike and the SB project bike. So Geoff puts his bike in the back of Guys van who lives nearby to Oxford,
Guy has Kyrina with him and only 2 seats, so Geoff gets a lift back to Brackley with Pete Seaton who has been working all day on the pit gate.
Me my dad and ben meet Geoff in the services at Towcester where Pete has dropped him. Ben gets in the back with the 3 bikes and lies across them in the dark with a beer and some peants for company. Geoff gets in the front with me and Dickie.
We get back to Geoffs and then unload Ben from the back. He then puts his bike into the back fo his family car and dries back to Bristol. Guy popped into Geoffs work on monday and dropped his bike back to him.
Anyway Geoff won a can of chain lube, Ben spilt peanuts in my boots, our gazebo blew away and scratched my just repainted work lease van ( i dont care about either the Gazebo had bad juju and work vans are just work vans). Anyway Ronald is off to live in Portugal and Wayne is off to live in NZ.
We all had fun, Tim Neave rode a rocket powered cricket bat like a demon and to me all that is what racing is about.

Well done to Stevie Coles and Andy Riley on there wins yesterday! Bad luck to Dave H you still beat me though!

Daels Triumph (part 1)

Dael is a man on a mission. When he brought his bike over to us it looked real nice (Top pic). He has spent some time making some nice modifcations and the bike has a good feeling.
First up we trial fitted a set of Co-Built yokes they looked good. We thought it would be nice to have a set of one of handle bar clamps made for the funny 1" bars that Triumph use. They came out better than we guessed (so good infact there will be a similar product thats available to buy real soon). Next off was an anodising run. The chrome Bates head light surround was not going to match the new black front end so that has gone out for some treatment.
It doesnt end there, next up is a new little speedo (real trick) so we can lose the speedo cable cluter from the front end. Once the front end is sorted the engine cases are going to get some attention whilst the bike is on the jig getting a sweet exhaust. But thats all in part 2!

Rye House last night was like a crash'a'thon in the Thunderbike bike class. Anyway poor Redmax Steve came of worst. I went down to the hospital to help out his dad after the meeting. Steve was getting some great attention. For sure the NHS was at its best. Check out his broken right ankle. He was a real man when they took his leathers off with out cutting them! His shoulder also looked pretty screwed!

Anyway enough of that stuff. Just get well soon Steve! We are all right behind you!!

Oliver Brindley steals the show in Hof-Westerwald!

Round 6 of the international Mefo Sport Flattrack Cup 2011 took place on the challenging 500m oval in Hof-Westerwald, Germany. And for the second time this season we could welcome the junior category! Heidenreichstein winner Tobias Gatzenmeier was joined by short track UK junior Oliver Brindley. Twelve year old Oliver had no problem with the tricky conditions and demonstrated amazing skills which earned him loud cheering of the crowd! The junior category in the UK has already produced a generation of outstanding riders who are now front runners in the expert class!
Totally new in Hof was the Supermotard category! Eight local supermotard racers joined the fun in their own class. They were amazed by the thrill and were eager for more!
Oliver’s dad, Derek Brindley had joined the experts in Hof where he was doing well until he lost control in turn three, taking Tom van Nes with him. Unfortunately Tom was not able to restart and we wish him a speedy recovery. Mick & Jan-Willem Jansen and Stefan Gatzenmeier were constant battle and it promised and exciting final. JW Jansen made the hole shot and took the lead. On lap 3, an over enthusiastic Gatzenmeier took Brindley out in turn 3 causing a multi rider pile up involving Mick Jansen, Halbe Scheper and Wiemer Borger. Derek Brindley hurt his foot and was not able to join the inline restart. JW Jansen used his advantage of the inline start and took the victory, follewed by Gatzenmeier and Scheper.

Buxton this weekend

I had my first shorttrack race at Buxton in 2008. I debuted my spotty kevlars and rode Jasons SR500 that I brought from him the weekend before. I also ran over Tim Stevens in the first race (sorry Tim). Anyway I enjoyed it so much I am going back this weekend!

Its our Club Champs penultimate round this weekend on sunday. If you are at a lose end come along! Ther is a novice class and you can ride most types of bike so come have a go!

Tyler is my best friend in San Diego. He is doing great with his racing. The top 2 shots are from the South West nationals in Tucson, the bottom shot is Tylers local track in SD.

Rye House 27th Aug Training Day

Mike who usually organises training at Rye house is not around at the end of August. So myself and Guy have stepped in to organise a days training on the excellent track at Rye House.

The Rye House rockets have a speedway meeting in the afternoon so its an early start and finish.

Riding will start at 10am and finish at 2pm. We need to be clear of the site by 3pm

Its £40 per rider Inc a medic and insurance.

If you want to ride you need to email me in advance with your licence number. If you dont have one we need to organise a day licence.

Please dont turn up on the day and expect to ride
If you dont have a bike but want to try email anyway!

This is our latest offering.

Designed to take that little bit of worry out of the queue for your next heat

Jan at Dutch Brothers sent us some drawings for a Rotax remote crank starter he had designed and made.
It fits in place of the pulley bolt on the RHS of the Rotax engine.
Our good mate Wilky asked us if we could sort one for his rotax, so we had a few made. They have turned out real nice.

Spec:
Stainless Steel crank nut with a 1/2 inch socket drive spark erroded to a nice depth.(stainless so it wont rust when you wash the bike and then ruin the oil seal).
Standard replaceable oil seal.
Nicely CNC machined oil seal housing.

To fit you can spot through the engine casing and rivet or screw the oil seal casing to the lower timing case of your motor. Or if you want we are offering an exchange casing service with one we have machined using a jig we have made!

Kit £100 (you drill and mount)
Kit and casing exchange £150 (just bolt on and away you go)
